Oxford County is familiar for me. I know the roads, the towns, the campgrounds, the stores. I know the shortcuts and the go arounds and the best place to get a pizza. Prior to this library adventure I knew about three Oxford County libraries, Mexico Public Library, Ludden Memorial Library in Dixfield, and Rumford Public Library. I knew these libraries because they are in towns that I have lived in. The other 15 Oxford County Libraries were a mystery even in their close proximity to me.

Oxford County has 18 public libraries. One is located inside the original Oxford County Jail still equipped with metal bars on the windows (Hamlin Memorial Library in Paris, Maine). Another is literally designed as a castle made with local field stones (West Paris Public Library in West Paris, Maine). The Zadoc Long Free Public Library in Buckfield has a musket from the 1600s that gets fired from the library lawn on the fourth of July. This musket is a true piece of history having been fired on the fourth of July for 250 years.

They are all beautiful, full of community, have a wide array of books, media, and resources.

Check out the Newsletters tab where you will find the Oxford heading that holds the newsletter and book list for this county. The newsletter will tell you more about the libraries in this county and the book list will have a complete list of the libraries in this county.

Enjoy. Have Fun. Read.
